The NHS can arrange face-to-face and telephone interpreters if your first language is not English, or you communicate via British sign language, or have hearing or sight impairments.

They can translate leaflets, consent forms, letters and other information into other languages or Braille. Large-print versions of leaflets are also available on request. If you have any special requirements or preferences, please contact Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust PALS (Patient Advice & Liaison Service).

Outpatient services

If you require an interpreter for your hospital appointment, please let the relevant clinic / department know ideally before your appointment. They will arrange a telephone consultation with an interpreter during your appointment.

Inpatient services

If you require an interpreter while you are staying in hospital (inpatient), please speak to the nurse in charge of the ward who will be happy to assist you with this. If your admission is planned, please give the hospital as much notice as possible of any interpreting needs.
